The Actor Factor: The Witches Are Out

Bewitched celebrated its 45th year on television this past September. After its premiere in 1964 it became ABC's biggest comedy hit up to that time, finishing at an impressive number two in the Nielsens that year. It is one of a select few shows that hasn't been off the air since its premiere, and now the entire series is available on DVD.

One of my favorite shows as a kid, I think every child of the seventies has fond memories of staying home sick from school (or just playing hooky) and watching reruns of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie. As an adult, though, I discovered the seldom-seen-in-reruns black and white episodes of Bewitched on Nick at Nite, and it has since become one of my favorite shows of all time.

Most people remember Bewitched as a silly supernatural show of the sixties and early seventies, but it is far more than that. It tackled issues of prejudice and intolerance long before it was commonplace or even acceptable on television. I have collected every season on DVD, after arduously saving them to VHS over the years, and after re-watching episodes for the umpteenth time, I have put together a list of the five episodes of Bewitched that every member of the GLBT community MUST see. Yes, I said “MUST” and all in capital letters. The shows are all from the first two seasons, and two of them are, timely enough, Halloween episodes.

“The Witches Are Out” from season one is the first episode where witches are presented as a minority group. They are referred to as such in the episode in which one of Darrin' clients (portrayed by Shelley Berman) wants his Halloween candy represented by a wart-nosed, broom-riding witch. Meanwhile, Samantha and her witch committee are trying to actively combat the negative images associated with witches during Halloween.

When Samantha stumbles upon Darrin's illustrations of a stereotypical witch, she is hurt and incensed. Darrin doesn't quite understand, but immediately supports Samantha, and instead comes up with a campaign portraying a sexy witch. The client shoots down the idea, but he is Dickensian-ally visited in the night by protest-sign-carrying witches who convince him of the error of his ways. This episode also marks the first appearance of Marion Lorne as Aunt Clara.

“A is for Aardvark”, also from the first season, does not have a particularly gay sensibility, but it is arguably the best episode of the entire series and my personal favorite. In it, Darrin sprains his ankle and Samantha, through witchcraft, makes the house obey his every wish. It is Darrin's first real taste of the power at a witch's command, and he quickly falls victim to the overwhelming lure of witchcraft. Through the experience, Darrin and Sam both learn the value of the unconventional love they share. Elizabeth Montgomery and Dick York turn in extraordinary performances. Notably, the episode is directed by film star Ida Lupino.

“There's No Witch Like an Old Witch” (again from season one) portrays a depressed and aging Aunt Clara finding value and purpose as a babysitter for mortal children. Although her young charges are delighted with her magical tricks and stories of flying from rooftop to rooftop, some parents are uncomfortable with Aunt Clara's eccentricities.

Aunt Clara ends up before a judge to plead her capability and value as a babysitter. The show tackles ageism and parental fear of that which is different as all the while Clara attempts to pull a rabbit from her pocket book, delightfully bungling the spell each and every time. Lorne would go on to posthumously win an Emmy for her role.

“The Joker is a Card” from season two marks the first appearance of Paul Lynde as Uncle Arthur. Need I say more? I don't, but I will. This is possibly the funniest episode of Bewitched ever. Endora's practical-joke-playing younger brother, Arthur, is introduced and delightful havoc ensues. Arthur convinces Darrin he can combat Endora's meddling with magic of his own, complete with duck calls and cowbells. "Yaga-zuzzie, yaga-zuzzie, yaga-zuzzie-zem!"

“Trick or Treat” is the second season's Halloween episode in which Endora wants Samantha to go away with her to the “Sacred Volcano” to escape the disturbing (to witches at least) revelries of Halloween. Darrin refuses, and Endora (in the guise of a gypsy girl portrayed by a very young Maureen “Marcia Brady” McCormick) turns Darrin into a werewolf. Dick York's transformation is both hysterical and ridiculous, but the resolution, in which Samantha challenges Endora to confront her own prejudices, is some of the most thought-provoking television ever produced. No — really!

The preceding episodes are but a sample of Bewitched's finest, especially from a GLBT perspective. Honorable mentions also go to “Witches and Warlocks Are My Favorite Things,” (season three) in which a coven of witches questions the suitability of Tabitha being raised in a mixed marriage, and “Samantha's Power Failure” (season five) in which the Witches' Council strips Sam, Serena, Uncle Arthur and Tabitha of their powers (this is also a personal favorite of my partner Chris — that reverend who does movie reviews around here). Oh, and “Samantha and the Loch Ness Monster” (season eight) just makes me laugh ridiculously. Serena as a mermaid! Do I need to say more? I could, but I won't.

All eight seasons of Bewitched are now availableon DVD, and there is talk of releasing the entire series in a boxed set. The earlier seasons, especially the first two, are must-sees for classic TV fans and new viewers alike.

The last three seasons with Dick Sargent (a gay icon in his own right) lack the originality of the earlier episodes and draw on many “remade” scripts from the first few seasons, but they remain entertaining and make the perfect viewing option when you are home sick from work ... or when you're just playing hooky.

"Calling Doctor Bombay! Emergency! Come right away!"

THE DARK KNIGHT REVIEW; BATTLE THE BATMAN 2, JOKER TWO FACE, HEATH LEDGER

Eh, GuyS bin a really busy weekend had a lot to do over it !! ... Been really exciting as well one of my best ones yet !! .... Just Hung out chilled out with my friends and watched a movie! .. I couldn't come by to blog cause i wasn't getting the time and the resources which is off course a computer . So like i went out on this friday to get my visa application filed and well it didn't actually work out so i i had to fill up more details into my file and make it more presentable . But yeah i am a bit sad that i couldn't get done that day itself .

My brother called me up and told me about a total solar eclipse will occur as the new moon moves directly between the sun and the earth. The moon’s umbral shadow will fall on parts of Canada, Greenland, the Arctic Ocean, Russia, Mongolia, and China. The Exploratorium’s eclipse expedition team (our fifth!) will Webcast the eclipse live from the remote Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwestern China near the Mongolian border. He didn't tell me in soo much detail offcourse but i searched out the news for it .

Well we crashed the malls thinking we would just catch a movie . Yea you guessed it right the movie was THE DARK KNIGHT . I am like here to write a review on it and find the possible setbacks on the movie . But yeah IT WAS SUPER AMAZING . Actually when we got there only 15 min's where left for the movie to actually commence but yeh .. I was so dumb to bring ma bag along with me . They don't allow bags now in theaters like they think it might contain a bomb or something . So like my friend Devanshu he ran off to keep it back up his home . Well he took some time there but yeah we made it on time. Oh , the mall was in Delhi City walk ! The crowd is like full of em! Namely chickZz..lol .. .. It was my first time up there . I will be posting my pics soon and will post em pics by picaso .. AKa by me here next time i go off...! At my Church's fare the well . Yeah we are leaving for Canada what do you expect all our friends are going to show up and we are supposed to throw a party. Anyways back to the topic! . Like my friend reached back 3 min late we didn't miss much .

The point of the review is to make you eager so that you go watch the movie youself. Even after its third week its a full house Yeah people the tickets are a dead gigaway. They are selling it up like cold water to people in the desert thirsty blokes.

THE DARK KNIGHT MOVIE REVIEW!
So let me start with the movie cast!
Like i know only the few important ones who had their main lead roles up in this movies so here they are :
Christian Bale Bruce Wayne/Batman

Heath Ledger Joker

Aaron Eckhart Harvey Dent/Two Face
Michael Caine Alfred Pennyworth
Maggie Gyllenhaal Rachel Dawes
Gary Oldman Lt. James Gordon
Morgan Freeman Lucius Fox

Have added a photos of the cast .
Now for the Review:

WHEN I FIRST CAME OUT OF THE THEATRE I WAS LIKE WOW!

Well to be frank i really didn't like any of batman's prequels so i wasn't really keen on watching this one . The only reason that dragged me to the theatre was this rating from imdb . This is the lastest pic from their all time hit movies. Only 250 movies are up there just check it out . It subsided all the famous movies to reach the top position. A striking 9.2 rating . I was like paranoid how is this possible .I think each and every scence has been worked on really hard to make this the most PERFECT MOVIE to watch in a theatre . And yes i also justify that this movie is way way wayyyy... Better than any other classic's . It has the most unique scripts . All talented actors under one screen . Well majorly Joker's role is the most dominating and the best in the whole movie. Well ledger made the best joker of any batman series and really gave the meaning and lived up to the movies expectations and more. The batman role done by Bale was quite good infact the sound he makes while in his getup makes him the bestever batman . Discriminating the old Batman movies made cartoon characters out of batman's brand . They were nothing compared to this.

The action is just mind blowing . All though all of it is after an hour of pure theoratical movie . But when the action pumps in you can really feel the adrellinin while watching it . The whole movie lasts around two and a half hours but it may seem longer than that to some. I LOVED THIS INSTALLMENT OF THE DARK KNIGHT and i recommend you all to watch this on the theatre only DON'T spoil the fun ITS WORTH IT!!

About Heath Ledger :
He landed the role of a lifetime, playing The Joker in “The Dark Knight” (2008) and setting the stage for becoming a huge international star. But unfortunately and quite shockingly tragedy struck in early 2008, when Ledger was found dead in his apartment of a possible drug overdose, ending one of the most promising careers of his generation. And i really do feel sad about his expiry he could have done some really good work in future but yeah i hope the batman series is now understood by how it should be made and in future we would be expecting another big hit . But not close to this one .

Canadian Independance Day|| July 1||4th of July||American independance Day|| Fireworks|| Halifax

Canadian Independance Day or more commonly known as Canada Day is celebrated just 3 days before the American Independance Day which hopefully will be celebrated tommorow in the U.S.. Was an eventful day for me out here had alot of things that i did through out going to the airport droping a friend off seeing him off. But the thing is it wasn't as plain or as simple as that I had a whole week full of events and such. its of a day back we celebrated Canada Day saw a huge helicopter a few days back couldn't take a picture though but yeah it was definately military bought for the sole purpose of entertainment. In the morning I was just strolling out on the road people were dressed up in white & red well if not white but they all were in red i felt I was the only one left outstanding from the crowd Na just kidding they all were just jealous that i had a red icesickle in my hand :D. Walking down further saw a whole lot of people gather up for a party as it looked and sounded tempting one of my friends invited me to it but yeah i always have something better to do no matter what heard he had a great time told me that they had all kinds of eatables out there
Anyways In the evening we went out at the water front and checked out and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about seems to me they were all there for the fireworks and guess what it only lasted for like 10 minutes but yeah ("The whole crowd was Pumped :P(you wish)") the only one who was cheering was our group. And the reason for this was that they don't allow you to use firecrackers at most of the places around halifax concerned about the people's safety.
I have seen better in India on Diwali even kids are professionals firing up a cracker and the session lasts through out the day and in the evening the whole cloud is soo polluted that the only thing you can smell is burnt matches and gun powder. But yeah i am happy that they atleast don't waste soo much money here even though this isn't a poverty stricken nation. I mean for God sakes there are people dying in your country they could give that money away as donation maybe it will do someone some good. Its like blowing your money off in smoke for no reason.

Boy Before Flower

Some loved it, some despised it. But no one will deny KBS TV drama “Boys Before Flowers” became an unprecedented phenomenon in South Korea’s television industry.

Since its first episode aired on Jan. 5, the series found itself at the center of a storm of rumors and controversy: one of its actresses committed suicide, all four main actors were injured in car accidents while rushing through a tight schedule and the show received several warnings from the media watchdog for excessive product placement and vulgar depiction of teenagers. To top it off, the series was repeatedly and harshly criticized for its “unrealistic and silly” plot.
